What should I do after getting a tattoo?

It’s vital to look after you look after yourself, and the area you’ve had tattooed, after your session. For the first week, avoid drinking alcohol, sweating/exercising excessively, soaking in the bath, swimming, sauna or steam room. Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight during the healing process! Here is some more information on what to do and what not to do…

The first 48 hours are crucial. Here’s what you need to do:

• Wash gently with unscented antibacterial soap, careful to remove any blood, excess ink, or plasma.

• Pat dry with a clean paper towel or tissue. Don’t rub! Do not recover.

• Apply a thin layer of Bepanthen or another healing ointment I’ve recommended.

• Apply a thin layer of Bepanthen every 4-5 hours.

• Avoid wearing tight and abrasive clothing.

Weeping will have slowed down a bit now. In some cases, it may even be gone.

Begin to apply a thin layer of tattoo lotion when your tattoo feels or looks dry, use the ointment I provided or something like Hustle butter..

Don’t panic! Scabbing is a normal part of the healing process. Don’t pick off the scabs! Avoid wearing anything that can snag on the scabs and remember to continue to moisturise the area with lotion when needed.

• Do not scratch!

• Do not pick or pull at the scabs!

The skin surface should mostly heal within this week, but underneath, full recovery may take a couple more months.

Numbing Cream

While numbing creams offer a seemingly convenient solution to the pain associated with tattoos, it’s crucial to weigh the potential drawbacks against the perceived benefits. Always discuss your decision with your tattoo artist to ensure they are comfortable with the use of numbing creams and to address any concerns they may have about the impact on the tattooing process or the healing process.

In the end, your tattoo experience should be a positive and memorable one. Understanding the negative aspects of numbing creams allows you to make an informed decision that aligns with your preferences and ensures the best possible outcome for your new ink.
